Being musically good or even great is simply not enough. Although cream has a tendency to rise to the top, being the best is not a guarantee of success. Ask yourself a simple question: Why should they give me a gig?
To answer that, you might need to ask yourself some more pertinent questions. Top of the check-list must be to make sure the venue is a suitable fit for your particular act.
